Chef Bio

The talented Executive Chef at Puerto 27,Jose Calvo-Perez is a San Francisco native. Jose studied at San Francisco City College Hotel and Restaurant Department. He then attended California Culinary Academy after graduating Archbishop Riordan High School.  While in High School, Jose obtained his passion for food from working alongside his father at his restaurant Fresca in San Francisco. The time Jose spent living and working abroad in Spain, Peru, Puerto Rico, France and Italy, not only promoted his cooking manner but it gave his ornate dishes an exquisite infusion of international flavors rooted on his Peruvian heritage.

Upon returning to San Francisco Jose put his culinary skills to work. He dominated the kitchen at his father’s restaurant making Fresca a local favorite. Before long he added two additional Fresca restaurants and shortly after ventured off into opening Pasiòn. After much success and recognition Jose has pursued his dream of providing the Bay Area with a Peruvian kitchen and Pisco Bar with Puerto 27. Jose’s devotion and dedication to serving good food and an intriguing dining experience has created a buzz amongst food critics and local regulars.

About Us

Puerto 27 brings the charm of traditional Latin American dishes and incorporates a modern contemporary twist.  Puerto 27 is designed to serve family style and incorporate family traditions in hopes of maintaining the old school feel. Our dishes are made with premium quality fresh ingredients, infused with exotic flavors and modern techniques.  We offer an array of small plates as Anticuchos (Peruvian Skewers), and pork belly potato stew.  We showcase a full ceviche bar along with an exquisite variety of homemade desserts.  

We highlight a 140-seat two level dining room with ocean views that include a color scheme of ocean blues and light orange, mirror accents, a white Caesar stone bar top with chocolate leather barstools. Our bar specializes in Pisco and also offers a robust section of contemporary, classic and original cocktails including an international wine list with more than 25 vintages to choose from.
